PTA Initiatives
The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology is almost done implementing its proposal to give residents cellphones on an installment basis.
The policy has advanced to its final stage, according to sources who spoke with PKVibes.com. The ministry has sent it to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for a comprehensive installment plan.
The proposed policy states that anyone who don’t pay their installment payments on time will have their mobile phones blocked.
Notably, this will be the first time that the PTA is enforcing a law on its own, rather than merely depending on cell carriers. The PTA’s Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will be used to carry out the blocking procedure.
The policy highlights its commitment to supporting low-income citizens by allowing them to acquire mobile phones through interest-free installment plans, hence improving accessibility to technology.
The next stage is to submit the policy for approval to the federal cabinet. After approval, the Ministry will release a policy directive, which will be a major step toward granting equitable access to technology and guaranteeing accountability by creatively utilizing the DIRBS system.
It is better to pay taxes and costs, but new comers must be taken into consideration in this regard
