KP bans e-cigarettes

KP bans e-cigarettes. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s caretaker administration has imposed Section 144, which prohibits minors from storing, selling, or using e-cigarettes and vapes near educational institutions.

According to an official notification released on Tuesday by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, the decision was made in response to an alarming surge in the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and vaping devices, particularly among children and young people in the province.

The directive expresses growing worry about the widespread use of e-cigarettes (bans e-cigarettes) and vapes, citing nicotine, a highly addictive ingredient found in these devices.

The use of e-cigarettes and vapes poses significant health hazards, particularly for children, young people, and pregnant women, leading to addiction and other major health problems.

The provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department further stated that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 had been imposed for 60 days. The decree prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes and vapes to persons under the age of 21 throughout the province.

Furthermore, the sale, storage, and use of e-cigarettes and vapes is prohibited within a 50-meter radius of any educational institutions in KP.

It is worth noting that in a meeting on January 11, Governor KPK Haji Ghulam Ali expressed complete support for civil society’s call to ban the use and sale of e-cigarettes and vaping.
